GIRLFIGHTS Totally ROCK!

Madison Square Garden is considered the greatest arena in the world. Dating back to the early 1900’s to today, Champions like John L. Sullivan, Jack Jonson, Benny Leonard, Barney Ross, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Rocky Graziano, Sugar Ray Robinson,  Ali, Vito Antuefermo, Duran, Frazier, Sugar Ray Leonard, Holyfield  and so many more have  all fought here.

I know Former UFC Champs and Hall Of Famers Dan Severn and Royce Gracie would have been honored to fight here as well as Olympic Silver Medalist and UFC legend Matt Lindland.

In our last interview with New Yorker and former UFC Champ Matt “The Terror” Serra, he hinted at a possible  comeback if it were at MSG.  The Great Renzo would love  the chance to compete here too.  Former UFC Champ Frankie Edgar has mentioned it.  Even UFC Champs, Chris Weidman and Jonny “Bones” Jones hope for the  chance to compete in the greatest arena in the world!  Refs Big John McCarthy and New Jersey’s Dan Miragliotta also have that itch and Dana White would would like nothing better then having a UFC @ MSG.

MMA fan, Actor Alex Corrado of TV’s Gotham, here with Penguin says “Big Congrats to Victory for bringin MMA to MSG!

MMAConfidential @ Victory V In NYC

By Bruce KiVo

With lines around the block, one would think that Adele, Beyonce or maybe even JLO was in concert, but no, it was Victory V at Terminal 5 back with a vengeance in NYC. With a very impressive card, hot ring girls, two titles on the line, and undefeated MMA standout and former XFC World Champion Nick Newell doing the fight commentating, here’s how it all went down.

Nick Newell’s protege, Ali Zebian, TKO’d a very skilled Carlos Monteiro. Although Monteiro looked impressive, Ali’s size and experience might have been too much for Carlos to overcome. Monteiro’s cartwheel kick at the end of round one was impressive and got the crowd on their feet. We can see that Monteiro will be a force to be reckoned with and Zebian looks ready for a title fight.

Adam Pakiela got taken down by Asylum Fight Team’s Ethan Gomes and then got reversed in round one. This was anybody’s fight. Gomes had great takedowns and had Adam’s back in round one. Adam reversed and was now on top. It was a great fight and Adam Pakiela got the decision.

John Pina scored a devastating KO four seconds into round two against his opponent, Michael Casill. Casill was doing well in round one, but that quick KO by John Pinaa ended the fight.

Renzo Gracie fighter Rohan Dalton got a real tight rear naked choke submission victory over Rafat Kandaker in round one. You had to be there!

20140425_161402

One fight I was really looking forward to was Renzo Figher Takahiro Ishikawa versus Richard Pabon. It was good seeing Joe Sampieri in Takahiro’s corner. Round one ended with Takahiro grounding and pounding. Round two was a back and forth battle with Pabon escaping submission attempts and delivering heavy strikes. Round three, Tak was in side control after taking heavy knees from Pabon. Tak secured a real tight armlock with Pabon executing a brilliant escape. It was a close fight, but according to the judges, Rich Pabon did more damage. From a grappler’s perspective, it looked like Tak should have gotten the decision, but Pabon did do damage and got the W. This fight rocked.

With Max McGarr in his corner, Renzo Warrior Jairo Israel Machuca took on Ronin Athletics fighter Adrian Czmielewski. Adrian was getting takedowns in round one. Round two had Adrian on top and won via ref stoppage due to ground and pound. Machuca will most def be back. YO ADRIAN!

In the Co-Main Event, the 170 lbs title was up for grabs. It was Bernard Cano versus Rob Ovalle. None of the spectators dared blink, because everybody in the house knew war was declared! Bernard Cano, the hometown hero, looked like the welterweight title was his after a devastating back fist that rocked Ovalle early on in round one. Cano kept looking for a guillotine. Ovalle survived the onslaught and started imposing his will on Cano. Round three had a very tired Cano tapping to a beautiful rear naked choke. From the beginning, it looked like Bernard Cano’s fight, but as the saying goes, “It ain’t over ’til its over!” Big congrats to the new Victory Combat Sports champion Rob Ovalle. One thing’s for sure, if you know Bernard Cano, he will be back with a vengeance! Cano deserves props big time and might have burned himself out going for the guillotine in round one.

Asylum Fighter Chris Tiernan took on Jake Skelly of Daddis Fight Team and unfortunately blew out his knee @ the beginning of round 1 and the fight had to be stopped giving Jake the TKO victory.  Not to take anything away from Jake, but Chris was totally dominating the fight.   Both guys showed good sportsmanship  and Chris Tiernan dedicated his fight to his sister in law who died of cancer. Speedy recovery to Chris!

Phil Dunlap fighter Brad Bateman took on NY Combat Sambo’s Hassan Hope. In round one, Hassan had Brad on his back. Round two had Bateman going for a triangle choke submission. Gave round one to Hassan and round two to Bateman and both guys looked gassed after round two. Round three, both guys seemed pretty gassed, especially Bateman. Hassan got the split decision win, what a battle! Big congrats to Hassan and NY Combat Sambo’s Steve Keopfer who was cornering.

Then, it was main event time, a fight everyone was looking forward to. The 155 lbs title was on the line. The bell rang, Yutin Hong versus Marcus Surin. As everyone knows, Marcus Surin is the fighter to watch. With great grappling and great submissions, he didn’t give Yutin Hong any space or any time to breathe and was all over him from the beginning. His superior Jiu-Jitsui gave him the ability to dominate a very game Hong. Surin caught Hong in a beautiful head and arm choke in round three. Congrats to the Champion, Marcus Surin.

The sold out, standing room only crowd got what they wanted: a very impressive fight card with big time action. No lay and pray with great submissions and TKOs.

Kudos to Victory Combat Sports’ CEO Kevin Lillis who said: “This is just the beginning”. If this is an example of the caliber of events that Victory Combat Sports puts on, you better be in Boston at Club Royale on June 20th.

And now before I forget, big congrats to Victory Combat Sports’ vet Patrick Walsh on his recent victory on the Ultimate Fighter.

Victory V took NYC by storm! Can’t wait for Boston! See you at the fights!

GSP Vacates Title Hendricks Lawler Dana Askren MMA Confidential

by Bruce KiVo

The MMA world is buzzin’ with news. Georges “Rush” St. Pierre announced this afternoon his decision to take an indefinite leave of absence from the sport he so dominated and  the  UFC Welterweight Championship belt is up for grabs.  As discussed this afternoon, on a conference call with Dana White, GSP confirmed all of the rumors going around before his controversial win over Jonny Hendricks.

His mind was made up before the Hendricks fight and that’s that!  Georges is one of the most dominant athletes to ever set foot in the Octagon and without a doubt one of the most popular.

After being rejected bt the UFC and sighning with One FC, Dana White says “Ben Askren can fight On Pluto for all I care.”

Bones Jones Richie Incognito Glover Teixeira Rampage Patricio Pitbull

by Bruce KiVo

UFC Lightheavyweight Champ, Jonny “Bones”Jones would love his next opponent to be Richie Incognito.

Jones threatens to “smoke” Incognito if he has the opportunity.  According to Sports World News.  Jones wants Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathon Martin to know that he is there for him and in his corner.  Let’s see how tough Incognito really is.  Will he accept the challenge?

Due to injuries suffered in his match with Alexander Gustaffson, Jones vs Teixeira will be postponed till March ‘2014.

Also on the injured is UFC  Lightweight Champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis.  He’ll most likely be out for approx 8 months and will undergo knee surgury.

Tonites Bellator:  Rampage Jackson is back.  With his r1,  tko victory over Joey “Mexicutioner” Beltran, Rampage  looked real good.  Although it’s questionable if it was a premature stoppage, Rampage seems psyched to be “back”.

Big props to Team Nogueira Rio standout Patricio Pitbull  for his r1, 2minute  23 second tko of Justin Wilcox in the Bellator tourney on Spike tonite.  According to Team Nog head wrestling coach, Eric Albarracin, aka Cpt Americano, both Pitbull brothers are pretty much unstoppable.  Patricio earned his rematch and title shot against the always dangerous  Bellator World Champ Joe Warren.

Had the opportunity to talk to former UFC standout Charlie Brenneman over at Edge Wrestling.  He was there Monday training with Team Nog Rio’s Patricio Pitbull.  Charlie has won 4 straight since being dropped by the UFC  and hopes to be back in the Octagon asap.

Until next time!

MMA CONFIDENTIAL Ashley vs Ashley @ VICTORY 111 NYC

by Bruce KiVo

The 69th Armory was a packed house at Victory 111 and “The GIRLFIGHT” was most memorable.

No, it wasn’t “ROWDY” RONDA  ROUSEY vs MIESHA “CUPCAKE” TATE… but it was damn exciting.

A great armbar was executed by a female athlete wearing leapord tights who could double for MILEY CYRUS.  Her name is ASHLEY “DOLLFACE” GREENWAY.

Previously undefeated and seemingly unstoppable, ASHLEY MILLER of KRAV MAGA  Academy NY got caught in a beautiful armbar by “Dollface” Greenway.

After throwing a heavy barrage of strikes and pushing her opponent against the cage, Miller got caught, but hung in there for what seemed like forever before tapping.  Both fighters really brought it and showed great sports”Woman”ship.  We know the very talented Ashley Miller will be back!

Ashley “Dollface” Greenway is now the VICTORY COMBAT SPORTS  Women’s Champion and looks ready for all comers. Check out some photos courtesy of Victory Combat Sports. Until next time.

MMA Confidential Anderson Silva MMA vs BOXING Roy Jones Machida Weidman

by Bruce KiVo

So many want a piece of Anderson Silva, but who does “The Spider” Silva want?

Anderson vows to KO undefeated Division 1  All American Wrestler and new 185-pound UFC Champ  Chris Weidman in their rematch at UFC 168.   Expect the unexpected from both fighters. The rematch is anybody’s fight.  Weidman’s ko of Silva was no fluke.  This boy can do it all. We’ll see who carries out their gameplan better.

If Anderson loses the rematch, Lyoto Machida can vy for a shot at the middleweight crown as teamates Lyoto and Anderson have vowed never to compete against one another.

Considered by many to be the best MMA fighter of all time, Anderson Silva has a hard time with wrestlers as demoed in his near loss to Chael Sonnen in their first fight.

If he beats Weidman, Anderson wants Roy Jones and so does the UFC.  It would be epic… MMA vs BOXING.      One can wonder why Silva would want to compete in boxing.  Of course the payday would be off the hook, but   Roy Jones believes testing oneself against one of the best boxers of all time is the real incentive for The Spider.  With a big size and reach advantage and similiar style to Roy, it seems unlikely that  the 38yr old Silva could avoid being decimated by Roy Jones.  Chael was able to knock him down and Chris Weidman ko’d him. Roy Jones Jr.  At 44 and past his prime has accepted the challenge as long as it comes pretty soon.

The reality of this match really happening seems a bit unlikely as the UFC’s 185lb division is stacked and the clock is ticking for Roy Jones Jr.  It’s up to Dana White and the UFC.

I say “let the games begin”.  Win or lose vs Weidman, we want to see this fight!

Until next time!

Official MMA Confidential Report JONES GSP RONDA MEISHA DIAZ PALHARES & More

by Bruce KiVo

Everybody’s talkin’ JON JONES vs GLOVER TEIXEIRA which has been postoned to March  and GSP vs JOHNY

HENDRICKS at UFC 167.   According to LYOTO MACHIDA, Glover is the man to stop the seemingly unstoppable

Jones.   CARLOS CONDIT has  GEORGE ST-PIERRE over HENDRICKS.   MARK MUNOZ is betting on HENDRICKS.

The big thing right now seems to be MMA betting.

Both fights have the potential to go either way.

Before I forget …big props are in order for DANA WHITE on his lifetime ban of ROUSIMAR PALHARES

from the Octagon for refusing to

release a heel hook after MIKE PIERCE tapped at least 8 times at UFC Fight Night 29.   As many of us know, a

heelhook is considered the most dibilitating submission in jiu jitsu and mma.  Pierce was actually tapping

before he hit the mat.  Palhares also disregarded the refs call to release the  hold.  Dana also had

Palhares’ fifty thousand dollar submission of the night bonus cancelled.

No word yet on how serious the injury will be to Pierce’s knee and ankle.

The Main Event, DAMIAM MAIA vs JAKE SHIELDS fight was a must win situation for both fighters. Former Strikeforce

Champ Jake took  Maia down twice in round one.  Maia got Jake’s back.  Jake reversed it and wound up in

Maia’s guard.  The same thing went down in round three.  Jake’s superior wrestling helped him grind out the split

dec win in this five rounder.  Jake now hopes to fight the winner of the CARLOS CONDIT MATT BROWN fight.

KO Of The Night went to Pusan, Korea’s DONG  HYUN KIM aka “The STUN GUN”, who was the underdog in the co main

event .  The Stun Gun looked pretty gassed when his power left put  Brazil’s  ERICK SILVA to sleep.  The ever humble

Kim calld his KO of Silva luck.

A real great back and forth were 135 pounders,  TJ DILLASHAW and RAPHAEL ASSUNCAO.  Assunsao got the split dec

win.  The fight was off the hook,  but Dillashaw seemed to deserve the win.

Fight Of The Night went to the Light Heavies…. “The MEXICUTIONER”, JOEY  BELTRAN vs Brazillian favorite FABIO

MALDONADO.   Slow starter Fabio was puttin together good combos and doin’ a little Anderson Silva “Peekaboo”

against the cage. Fabiano got the split dec win and is now calling out CHAEL SONNEN and JAMES TE HUNA.

All the Brasilleros wanna fight CHAEL.  Am looking forward to RASHAD vs SONNEN, but everyone is waiting

for “The Axe Murderer” WANDERLEI SILVA vs CHAEL.  Fans love a “bad blood” fight.  Let the games begin!

The MATT HAMILL  THIAGO  SILVA  matchup @ 205 had  Hamill standing too much with the deadly striking Brazillian.

Hamill landed a strong liver shot in round 2 and finished the round on Thiago’s back.

He should have kept the fight on the ground as Silva was destroying Hamill’s lead leg with kicks.  By round 3

Hamill was gassed and limping.  Unan dec went to Thiago.

After Fight Night 29 it was “ULTIMATE FIGHTER Time” …

Team RONDA’s  JESSAMYN  DUKE vs Team TATE’s RAQUEL PENNINGTON.

Wow, as SHAYNA BASZLER said, “What a fight”.  Round 1: Jessamyn @ 5’11 had a standind guillotine on 5’7 Raquel.

Raquel escaped and Jess continued to use her long reach.

Round 2 saw Raquel starting to connect with power and the fight was so close that it went into “Sodden Victory” (a

3rd round).

Raquel edged out the victory, but it was an amazing show of heart by both athletes.  These girls threw down.

After the fight Meisha put out her hand to shake with Ronda and ronda gave Meisha the finger.  Will this feud ever

end??  In a previous episode, it looked as if Ronda’s main coach Edmond and Team Tate’ coach and  UFC vet

DENNIS HALLMAN were going to come to blows.  They were seperated and Ronda firmly requested that Dennis drop

it.  The season is one of the coolest ever.  The girl fighters just rock the show and  they never leave it up to the

judges.

Unbeaten Lightweight sensation, “NOTORIOUS” NICK NEWELL (10-0),  aka The One Armed Fighter competes

in WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING Dec 7th in Vancouver, Canada vs Sabah “The PERSIAN WARRIOR” FADAL (7-2).

Born without a left hand, The former XFC Lightweight Champ Notorious Nick  stopped 9 0f his 10 opponents by

either ko or submission.  WSOF Pres and K-1 legend, RAY SEFO calls Newell the true strength of the human spirit.

MARIO SPERRY believes JACARE  SOUZA poses a bigger threat to MW Champ CHRIS WEIDMAN than Anderson Silva.

Makes sense!  Weidman’s strength is his wrestling and takedowns and as we saw vs “The SPIDER”, he’s got ko

power.  He trains  BJJ  under RENZO Blackbelt  MATT SERRA and his striking with RAY LONGO .

Jacare’s strength is his jiu jitsu which many say is the best in mma….and don’t forget he ko’d Yushin Okami

in round 1 at UFC Fight Night 28 in the first round.  Jacare is dangerous standing or on the ground.

Is UFC WelterWeight Champ GEORGE ST PIERRE talking retirement?  Not quite, but according to FARAS ZAHABI, GSP

will contemplate his future after defending his title against  JONNY HENDRICKS.  The 170lb division is so

stacked right now.  BELLATOR’s BJORN REBNEY claims he is willing to give up dibs on his matching rights contract with

Bellator Champ BEN ASKREN if the UFC will give Ben an immediat title shot agains GSP.  Sounds interesting!

There are so many in line for a title shot,  but I like the idea.   We’ve seen such incredible athletes come

to the UFC via WEC and Strikeforce.

VICTORY111  ASHLEY VS ASHLEY

NY  is really amping up it’s MMA scene.  The recent Victory Combat Sports  amateur fights in NYC  featured 3 title fights, one of which was a girlfight.

ASHLEY MILLER of KRAV Maga NYC took on an opponent, who at first glance appeared to be  MILEY

CYRUS.  No, it wasn’t Miley.  Turned out to be ASHLEY “DOLLFACE” GREENWAY of Bodyquest in North Carolina who

could pass for Miley’s twin   ….hair, outfit, bodytype, face etc.  Dollface Greenway even fought in sexy leopard

tights.  Thanks to the RONDA  MEISHA fight, Women’s MMA is taking off bigger then ever  and this fight did not

disappoint.  Miller came out in her fierce attack mode and this fight was on.

It looked a little like Miller was starting to get the best of Greenway, until “Dollface” locked on a

tight armbar and got the submission win.   What a fight!  Have no idea how Ashley Miller hung in there so long

without tapping.  Congrats to  Ashley Greenway, now Women’s VICTORY  COMBAT  SPORTS Champion.

Chris Borders of Team RENZO won by dec in a great fight vs Dennis Siudut.

Other notable fights were Israel Muchuca of RENZO GRACIE Academy”s great round 1 ko of Luis Irizzary.

Ethan Gomes of Asylum Fight Team won via real tight armbar vs Jonathon Cage and Marcus Surin with an

amazing guillotine sub over Jose Ordiex.  Marcus Surin, who is a teammate of Former UFC Champ FRANKIE

EDGAR is someone to watch out for.

It’s been confirmed by DANA White that the JON JONES GLOVER TEIXEIRA fight will go down in March instead of Superbowl weekend.

Most def looking forward to the trilogy of BJ PENN FRANKIE EDGAR!

RUMOR has it …..

that ANDERSON SILVA wants CHAEL SONNEN one more time.

that RENZO GRACIE will fight in the octagon again.

that BELLATOR is passing on Palhares.

that NICK DIAZ may move up to 185lbs and accept a challenge from MICHAEL “The Count” BISBING.

Until next time!

No Jon Jones Gustafsson Rematch? MMA Confidential

by Bruce KiVo

Saturday’s epic battle between UFC Champ Jonny “Bones” Jones and Sweden’s Alexander Gustafsson was truly an

epic battle and as mma journalist Michael Stets pointed out, it was reminiscent of Rocky Balboa vs Apollo Creed.

Both athletes went to the the hospital after what many say was a very close fight.

After the fight, Jones said he would grant Gustafsson a rematch, as it was the fairest thing to do.

After Jones repeatedly watched replays of the fight, he feels he won rounds 2, 4 and 5.

To his credit, Gustafsson, no doubt  gave Jones his toughest fight to date and was the first to take down the Champ.

Gustafsson’s takedown defense was also off the hook.  Having Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis as a training partner paid

off bigtime.

Many say Gustafsson won the fight, 3 rounds to 2.  If you scored round 2 for Gust,  like UCL’s Peter Storm, the

outcome would have favored the big Swede.  I had round 2 close, but gave it to Jones.

To become a champ, you’ve got to beat the champ and although Alexander had good boxing and confused Jones

with great footwork, “Bones” Jones was the one doing the real damage.  At the end of round 4, my predict was

Alexander Gustaffsson getting tko’d by knees and elbows in round 5.  To quote Coach Dreyfus of Radical MMA…

“Gustafsson’s head is like concrete.  Anyone else would have folded from Jones’ knees and elbows”.

Both guys were totally gassed by round 5 and pure heart kept them going.

So what about a rematch??

Dana announced #1 light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira gets the next title shot at Jonny “Bones” Jones

Feb 1st in Newark.

Jonny expressed  no interest in an immediate rematch with the Swede. I know fans would like to see the rematch,

but Teixeira seems more deserving, especially after his spectacular 1st round tko of Ryan Bader at UFC Fight

Night Sept. 4th.

But have no fear….Jones will rematch Gustafsson after the Glover Teixeira fight and this one may prove to be

better then the last one.

See you in Newark!
