Ultimate Fighter News, Ronda, Meisha and Women’s MMA

by Bruce KiVo

Ultimate Fighter season 18…with women training alongside male fighters for the first time and “Rowdy” Ronda

Rousey’s nemesis Meisha “Cupcake” Tate replacing an injured Kat Zingano as coach, this season looks to be off the hook.

16 men and 16 women battled in 2 round elimination bouts to gain entry into the house.  Narrowed down to 8 men

and 8 women, everyone is vying for that six figure UFC contract plus bonuses for best KO, best submission and

best fight.

Veteran Tara LaRosa, once considered the best female fighter in the world lost by unan decision and never made

it into the house.

Meisha gets first pick based on Dana’s coin toss and Ronda gets first fight.  Meisha  chooses one time training

partner Julianna Pena.

Ronda’s first pick is veteran superstar, Shayna “Ace Of Spades” Baszler.

Ronda gets first fight and picks Shayna vs Juliana. From jumpstreet, Shayna and most of the house thought

Julianna had little chance, if any of beating Shayna.

Next the fighters moved into “The House”.  Some fighters got on their swimsuits and jumped into the outdoor jacuzzi.

The following day Tim Gorman discusses his views on women fighters and says morally, he could never go 100

percent vs a female fighter. “They would get hurt”.  Sara Moras and Shayna Baszler don’t appreciate the

disparaging talk and in a fun way Sarah vows to tap out Gorman in practice.

Veteran Shayna tells how her first fights were for a few hundred bucks, were held in warehouses and the sacrifices

over the past decade have paid off.  Women’s MMA is now in the UFC.

Julianna seems a bit concerned about her opponent’s experience advantage, but vows to kick her ass.

At the weigh-in, Shayna slaps an Ace of Spades card on Julianna’s chest followed by an intimidating staredown and

believes she got into Julianna’s head.

Back at the house, extremely charismatic Shayna Baszler was professing that Julianna Pena doesnt even belong in

the same ring with her, was most likely scared and should be taking her seminars and learning.

Round one, Pena comes out swinging and aggressively charging forward pits Baszler against the fence.

Baszler gets the takedown and soon winds up in guard.  Pena goes for an armbar, stands up and “Ace Of Spades”

Baszler puts her back down getting side control.  What a fight!!  Baszler tries for a guillotine, Pena rolls with it,

winds up in Baszler’s half guard dropping hard elbows and punches.  Julianna Pena seems unstoppable.  Veteran

Shayna Baszler gets a single leg takedown and r1 is over.

Round 2 starts with Julianna scoring a big right and then a powerful left hook.  Julianna pena is on a mission.

A stunned Shayna secures a clinch and pushes Julianna against the cage. Pena reverse Shayna and begins landing

vicious knees in the clinch.  Julianna takes Shayna down, gets her back and locks in one tight rear naked choke.

At 1:52 of round 2  Shayna taps.   What a fight.  I’m sure Shayna Baszler will be back. She is truly one of the greats

in the women’s division.

As for Julianna Pena…this girl has heart and super skills to back it up.  She may just be the next Ultimate Fighter.

Lookin’ forward to next week’s episode for sure!!

UFC 159 JONES SONNEN Womens MMA GSP Rumors MMA Confidential

by Bruce KiVo

UFC 159 is set to rock the house @ Newark’s Prudential Center tonite.

Jon Jones, Chael Sonnen, Michael “The Count” Bisping, Alan Belcher, Roy “Big Country” Nelson, Cheick Kongo and even

Dana White were talkin’ the talk at the press conference and weighins.   Dana hinted GSP v Jonny Hendricks is next.

The war of words between the UFC Champ “Bones” Jones and Chael Sonnen has been somewhat subdued since the two

coached against each other on the Ultimate Fighter reality show.   After getting to know Chael on the show, Jones made

it clear he doesn’t take his trash talking seriously……but he’s still lookin’ forward to giving him a beatdown.  Chael claims

that Jonny “Bones” may be the best Lightheavyweight Champ ever, but he’s still convinced he can win.  When

interviewing Chael. I asked him if this fight makes sense as he has unfinished biz with Anderson Silva.

His reply was “this  fight makes bigtime sense as the revenue being generated will break UFC  records”.  He did agree that

if he didn’t make that dumb spinning backfist mistake, he may’ve won.

Nobody thinks Sonnen has a chance of beating Jon.  Chael may have better wrestling then Jones, but that’s it.  Jon Jones

may very well be the best pound for pound.  We have only seen him in trouble 2x and it was brief….once with Vitor’s

armbar and a some difficulty with Machida’s strikes.

The weigh-in staredown between Jones Sonnen was respectful.  The Bisping Belcher staredown was heated with Belcher

pushing The Count and Dana seperating them and kinda cracking up.  Talking to both athletes at Thursday’s media event

it was obvious there is a lot of bad blood going into this fight.  Belcher put up videos of Bisping getting KO’D by Dan

Henderson and is constantly mocking him.  On the pre-fight conf call, Belcher was asked what a win over Bisping would

do for him, Bisping interjected ” A win over me for Alan Belcher will be by far the biggest win of his pathetic career.

This will be a great fight.   Bisping has never been submitted, has super cardio, doesnt get hit much and has developed

real good wrestling.  Belcher was on a nice winstreak, before losing to Yushin Okami’ @ UFC 155.  Alan had no answer for

Okami’s wrestling and lost by Unanimous Decision.  His TKO, round 1 of Rousimar Palhares was world class.  He stops

most opponents either by submission or TKO in the first round.   Bisping’s wrestling and technical striking will be a big

factor in this fight.  The fight can go either way. For KO power, Belcher has the edge. Technical boxing and wrestling,  its

Bisping.  Submissions it’s Belcher.  The Count told me unequivocally that Belcher did not get into his head.

With regards to training, Belcher is trained by K-1 legend Dick Roufus and has Bellator Champ Ben Askren on his team.

TUF Fighter winner, Bisping trains with Jason Parillo and Brady Fink.

Every fight on the Main Card is off the hook and the Prelims are looking real good too.

*MAIN CARD:

*Lightweight: Jim Miller v Pat Healy     Money’s on Miller.

*LightHeavyweight: Phil Davis v Vinicius Magalhaes  While Vinnie may be the best submission artist in the UFC, “MR

Wonderful” has fought the best and has much more experience in the Octagon.

*Heavyweights: Roy Nelson v Cheick Kongo: Both are heavy hitters.  “Big Country” may just eat punches and go for the

KO or a new gameplan may be to take Kongo down.  Roy is a Renzo Blackbelt.  When I asked Roy why he doesn’t take

opponents down, he said he just loves knocking people out.

*Middleweights:  Michael Bisping v Alan Belcher   Don’t blink. Both guys need the win.

*LightHeavyweight: Champion Jon Jones v Chael Sonnen   Will Chael deal with Jon’s 11 inch reach advantage, get some

takedowns and avoid Jon’s vicious elbows?  Hes got a hard task @ hand as no fighter has posed a threat to the Champ.

**Prelims: So many great matchups!

**Women’s Bantamweight: 6-0, Silver Medalist Sara McMann v 10-4, Sheila Graff.  Graff has a ton of experience and is a

powerstriker who never gives her opponent a chance to breathe.  Each of her 10 wins came in round one.

This will be undefeated McMann’s toughest fight.  Her striking and submission game had better be on point.  If she fights

the way she did v Shana Bazler, Graff will win.  Slight edge to Sara.

Looking forward to Jersey’s Nick Catone v James Head and Leonard Garcia v Cody McKenzie. Cody is part of  Women’s

World Champion RONDA Rousey’s team.  Bellmore, New York’s Gian Villante {Chris WEIDMAN’s Trng partner] v Ovince

Preux looks to be a good matchup too.

15-1, Rustam Khabilov from Dagistan  fights 9-0 Yancy Medeiros from Hawaii. This fight will rock. “Tiger” Khabilov is 5″8

with a 73′ reach and is with Greg Jackson. Yancy has 5 first round finishes. Six were by KO and 1 sub.

Bringing the UFC to Jersey is always great.  We got to interview  Womens WORLD CHAMP “Rowdy” RONDA  ROUSEY and

TUFF Finalist Uriah HALL @ the UFC GYM Wed.   It was a whose who of MMA.  Cody McKenzie  and other UFC Fighters

were all over the place.  Sophocles even stopped by.

Former UCL champ, Kenny Rivera did a demo and I did a staredown with Phoenix Carnivale.

Now off to The Prudential Center for UFC 159….LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!
